In the strange and worrying weeks that have gone by, the team here at Midland Steel have been following all HSE and Government guidelines to protect ourselves, our families and the wider community.

The anticipated return to construction work in the coming days is welcome news with many new working norms to get used to. We are grateful for the work carried out by the CIF in creating new SOPs and guidelines to allow construction to be one of the first sectors to return to work. While most of the construction industry still remains in shutdown, Midland Steel has been kept active supplying a number of essential projects with prefabricated modular rebar. Adhering to social distancing rules in our manufacturing facility, our prefabrication services ensures all social distancing rules can be followed onsite all while reducing the project’s programme.

Two of these essential projects have been University Hospital Limerick and Croom Hospital’s extensions, with both of these essential facilities providing an additional 24 beds for the healthcare service. We were delighted to supply Clancy Construction on these builds which are gaining huge momentum with the use of a number of offsite solutions.

Our FasterFix Modular Rebar product was used for the slabs in these projects which proved a tremendous success for the project programme and social distancing needs. This offsite solution enabled 70 tonnes to be installed in 1.5 days at UHL (1,300 m2) and 93 tonnes at Croom (1,500 m2) also in 1.5 days.

Our team stepped up to ensure these projects could be supplied to the best of our ability. Receiving the design on a Thursday afternoon, our team managed to 3D detail, prefabricate, perform quality checks and deliver the first load within 4 days of receiving the design.
