Hourglass shaped columns and crossheads weighing up to 25 tonne each were prefabricated offsite and delivered into London Bridge station using just in time deliveries and wide load escorts, these cages had a requirement to be made to 5-millimeter tolerance and were installed without any trouble on site. A project that could not be achieved without the use of BIM.

Solution

MS developed fabrication jigs using 3D software Tekla and managed to complete this very challenging project. Columns were delivered from Mountmellick to London.

London Bridge new concourse, these columns were finished with a fair face and are on display today in London Bridge station!
